Development Partners laud government effort
Development partners comprising of foreign governments and international aid agencies have commended Rwanda’s effective utilization of grants, pledging to continue providing aid through budget support.
A total of about 297.9 Billion Rwandan Francs is expected in the form of aid to help the government balance out its financial demands as outlined in the recently-released National Annual Budget.
The two day joint budget support review meeting also discussed strategic priorities and budget allocations for the fiscal year 2012/2013.
This was revealed during a meeting bringing together Rwandan government officials and representatives of the various development partners in the country.
Discussions between the two parties also included the draft budget framework for the year 2012/13-2014/15, with future spending reportedly aimed at projects and programs that seek to further accelerate a economic growth and alleviating the standards of living of the less fortunate.
The Minister of Finance and Economic Planning John Rwangombwa, among those in attendance of the meeting, pointed out that more funds have been allocated to potential investment projects, unlike in past budgets where funds were injected directly into the national budget for financing of daily government duties.
The Finance Minister also disclosed that discussions were held regarding preparations for EDPRS Phase 2 and the role of development partners in the said phase.
The meeting also emphasized on strategic issues relevant to the short and medium term development of Rwanda including infrastructure development particularly energy generation, private sector development and investment in feeder roads.
