In order to permanently eradicate drug use, from May 26th 2012, a campaign against drug use was started in 30 districts that make Rwanda.

The theme of the campaign says “Let’s join efforts and build drug use free future generation.”

While talking to officials in charge of social affairs for cells and sectors that make Nyabihu district, Assistant Inspector Théresie Mushimiyimana in charge of community policing in Nyabihu talked about effects of drug use.

Mushimiyimana asserted that the effects of drug use are development retardation, home poverty, unplanned sexual intercourses, insecurity drug users create in their areas and others.

Because it was found out that residents of this place do drugs and others sell them, Assistant Inspector Mushimiyimana urged residents to keep security tight, fight drug use and advise drug users to change and lead a normal life.

Mushimiyimana advised youth to avoid doing drugs because youth are the future leaders of Rwanda.

Nyabihu residents were thanked for working with the police and encouraged to continue giving the information on drug users and drug distributers for successful drugs eradication.

Drug fighting program started on May 26th 2012 in all districts but; on national level it was started by First lady Jeannette Kagame in Gatsibo district.
