Rwanda | Hakizimana trails Akope in Bujumbura

    Rwanda | Hakizimana trails Akope

    Bujumbura Golf Open

    Day 2 (leader board)

    1) Dimas Ndiza 68 and 69

    2) Deo Akope 68 and 72

    3) J.B Hakizimana 71 and 72

    15) E. Ruterana 80 and 77

PROFESSIONAL golfer Jean Baptiste Hakizimana will need to produce exceptional performances to win the Bujumbura Open after finishing third on Day 2.

The 26-year old shot one over 71 and two over 72 on day 1 and day 2 respectively but the Kigali golf club player was still behind Kenya’s Dimas Ndiza and Uganda’s Deo Akope.

“I am closely monitoring the top two and I will need to up my performance to win the event. They are talented golfers who have lots of experience but I am confident,” Hakizimana, who finished 4th last year said going into the third day (yesterday).

His compatriot Emmanuel Ruterana was not so lucky after a bout of malaria restricted him to a dismal 15th position. By press time, the duo was in action on day three. The tournament winds up this afternoon.

After the Burundi Open, the duo will switch focus to the Nairobi leg of the KCB East African Golf tour set for July.

About 40 professional golfers from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Burundi are expected to grace the event that will have prize money of Rwf7.47m.
