Nyamasheke youth to be sensitized on health through sports
Nyamasheke district, Western Province, in partnership with UNFPA has embarked on a programme to sensitise the youth on reproduction health through sports.
The sensitization will dwell much on teaching the youth how to avoid un-planned pregnancies, doing antenatal visits, fighting AIDS, fighting Gender Based Violence among other things.
According to Etienne Bankundiye, the Health Director of Nyamasheke district, these sensitization campaigns will be held during sports events that will be alternating between sectors and are scheduled for the end of the week.
Bankundiye also said that voluntary HIV testing will be conducted.
UNFPA has planned to conduct soccer, basketball, and volleyball competitions from which the best three teams in each category will be awarded.
The Nyamasheke Youth Coordinator Jean de Dieu Tuyishime expressed satisfaction over the planned activity and said that it will play a big role in stopping the growing prostitution in the district. He also the campaign will address the problem of lack of creativity that the youth have always faced.
