Only 50% of Rwandans may depend on farming by 2020

Rwanda farmingAccording to Stanslas Kamanzi the Minister for Natural Resources, the government of Rwanda is working hard so that by 2020 Rwandans who will be surviving on farming will be 50percent.

The minister said this in the meeting that brought together members of the land registration commission in all districts of Rwanda held in Muhanga town on the 7th.June.2012.

He said that Rwanda will achieve this if every Rwandan puts in much effort and those other kinds of work that people can survive on rather than farming should be emphasized; and for this to be possible, a large capital is needed to create that work.

Some of the members of land commission said that for the number of Rwandans who survive on farming to reduce from 90percent to 5opercent is a big step and it will be a difficult one to achieve as many Rwandans like to use their land more than anything else.

They argued that even Rwandans who have other work to do insist on tilling their land other than leaving it to their relatives who have nothing to depend on. The government’s program is to encourage those who have other work to do to leave land for others to farm while encouraging land use consolidation and farming selected crops for every region.
