Ngoma: Drug abuse eradication a Leader’s responsibility
Local leaders have been reminded that they are the first step towards drugs eradication instead of Police and Security officials.
Brigadier General Dan Dapfizi, local defense force leader in Eastern Province said this during the local parliament of Ngoma district on June 12th 2012.
Greguoire Niragire from Mutendeli sector who had attended the meeting pointed out that drug use is on increase again because there are no soldiers and the police in this area.
Mutendeli sector borders with Burundi and since there are security officials, chief waragi from Burundi comes in plenty and it’s cheap, expresses Niragire.
Reacting to what Niragire said Brig gen Dan Dapfizi answered that eradicating drugs does not require an army or police uniform because the government is represented by local leaders.
Brig gen Dan Dapfizi explains: “Waragi is distilled from your villages and you know people that do it. You know where it’s sold from and you share it with them. If you report them and have them arrested, drug use will be eradicated.â€
Residents confirm that smuggling, drug use and trade and traffic mistakes like overloading increased with the absence of Defence and police officials.
