Rwanda : Police arrests the suspected ‘Kigali gang of thieves’
The Rwanda National Police in a search swoop has arrested twenty people suspected to be connected with recent robberies reported in Kigali suburbs.
most of the items stolen by the suspected were found and included ten LCD flat screens, seventeen laptops and one desktop, three television sets, two home theaters and four amplifiers.
The group which is currently detained at Kicukiro Police Station was arrested a few weeks ago following different Police operations mounted in separate areas of Kicukiro, Gasabo and Nyarugenge District.
One of the arrested suspects, a 37-year old Aimable Uwineza who resides in Nyarugenge district admitted that their mission was made possible with the help of housemaids and gate keepers with whom they conspired to break into houses.
Another suspect Christophe Iyurumuha, added that he was arrested while transporting the stolen electronics from Kicukiro to a house in Nyamirambo belonging to Jean de la Croix Tuyisenge commonly known as Tuse.
Tuyisenge who is alleged to have purchased the items from other suspects voiced that he used to run business in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and decided to shift to his base to Kigali when conflict broke out in the neighboring country.
“I had flat screens and laptops in my shop. I was arrested on May 31 when Police identified a stolen LCD flat screen among my goodsâ€.
The Rwanda Police Spokesperson, Superintendent Theos Badege, said that this gang had formed a broad network which would easily break into houses and steal valuable household equipments.
He urged the general public to enhance the sharing of information with security organs so as to forestall future criminal activities and ensure safety of people and their properties.
