Rwanda : Police dismantles another gang of criminals

The Police on Tuesday mounted a search operation in Gasabo district and dismantled a gang of criminals alleged to have been causing sleepless nights to the neighborhood.

The arrest comes barely a month after the police burst another gang of thieves who were connected to many thefts in Kigali suburbs.

The search that took place in Kimicanga Cell of Kimihurura Sector led to a hub in the area where the gang stayed during day to cause havoc at night.

The local people in conjunction with community policing committees reported the case to security organs which planned an operation to uproot the gang from that area.

Security operatives managed to arrest 27 alleged criminals, 30 idlers with no identification. They also seize 154 cartoons of chief waragi gene and 180 liters of a local substandard brew called Muriture.

Those without IDs were handed over to Kigali City while the hard core criminals were taken to Remera Police station to file their cases.

The operation according to local residents a long overdue salvation because they were living in serious insecurity characterized by night break-ins and vandalism.

The Central Regional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Rogers Rutikanga attributed the success of the operation to the good cooperation between Citizen and Security Organs through information sharing.

He encouraged others to follow that good example by reporting any threat they face in their different localities.
