Youth need to be taught about the genocide more – Rutayisire
The Chairman of the National Commission for the Fight of Genocide (CNLG) John Rutayisire has said that there is need to put more efforts in teaching Rwandans especially the young generation all the truth about the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
Rutayisire said this while commenting on the genocide conference that concluded on Friday last week. The annual conference is held before the kick-off of the commemoration week to discuss on various issues about the genocide.
According to Rutayisire, there is need to have a comprehensive plan to see that the history of Genocide is taught to the young people who seem not to understand well the genesis of the 100 days horrific event that took over a million lives eighteen years ago.
“There is need for the young people to grow while having a thorough understanding of the issue of Genocide. This can be done with proper planning on ways of dissemination of information for all Rwandans,†said Rutayisire adding that this would even help to teach the next generations.
Rutayisire who is also an educationalist said that the meeting also discussed ways in which the genocide literature can be brought together to create a resourceful pool of books which can be used in schools.
“We have a situation where foreigners have written about the Genocide and presented facts wrongly. But even those books which were written by Rwandans have never been brought together so that we can see which ones to use,†he said.
He said that the conference came up with a resolution that genocide resource center be put in place. Here, all the books on genocide can be kept to help inform the world and Rwandans in particular, the truth about the genocide.
