Gov’t Leadership Retreat to focus on EDPR2

Gov’t Leadership Retreat to focus on EDPR2

Members of cabinet, ambassadors, mayors and heads of key government agencies, as well as senior members of the legislature and judiciary, and representatives of the private sector will participate in the three day 10th Government Leadership Retreat.

The retreat is held under theme “Working together to deliver EDPRS 2” and is taking place at Gabiro School of Infantry in the District of Gatsibo in the Eastern Province from 28-30 March.

Chaired by President Kagame, this year’s Government Leadership Retreat will focus on strategies to achieve the targets set out in EDPRS2 and accelerate socio-economic transformation in the next five years.

With a targeted average economic growth rate of 11.5 percent for the EDPRS2 period and an increase from the annual average of 8.2 percent in the last 10 years, the Government of Rwanda aims to reach $1240 GDP per capita by the year 2020.

A government press statement says that achieving these targets will require concerted efforts in improving balance of payment with emphasis on reducing trade deficit, improving foreign exchange earnings, enhancing human resource capacities and developing infrastructure to support development.

The interactive discussions among all participants will include topics ranging from a review of the 2012/2013 retreat recommendation, priority sectors for the upcoming year and the implementation of a roadmap for the improvement public service performance.
