    Strengthening service delivery key for good governance

    Gakenke Mayor Deogratias Nzamwita called on local leaders in the district to improve public service delivery as a way of stimulating good governance and development.

    The call was sounded during the official launch of the good governance month held in Busengo sector of Gakenke district.

    “You have to be ready to offer services to even the rude people that come for the services, this should be our key priority because we have to serve them” said Nzamwita urged

    He also noted that as demonstrated by the government, the role of good service delivery is paramount in ensuring service delivery, which is a critical ingredient of good governance and development.

    The mayor asked Gakenke residents to participate in different government programs like Mutuelle de santé medical insurance, Girinka program, land use consolidation, good service delivery all that develop people,” said Martin Twahirwa, Karaba village leader.

    Mayor Deogratias Nzamwita also encouraged local leaders to always solve the people’s issues on time and avoid prolonged court cases that could be prevented.

    However, to achieve the desired service delivery levels, the local leaders will need to share knowledge through the identification, documentation and exchange of good practices and lessons learned about service delivery approaches.

    “Through this good governance month, we have got to deal with citizens issues but we also expect to acquire more insights and knowledge, this is a wakeup call to perform better,” said Ildephonse Buseruka, the Ngezi village leader in Busengo sector.

    Local leaders were encouraged to work with community mediators and provide justice to people.
