KARONGI: Time for genocide participants to testify
“Time has come for those who participated and those who didn’t but witnessed the ugly genocide of 1994 to come out and testify, why should genocide survivors only testify as if there were no other people?â€
This was remarked by Bernard Kayumba Mayor for Karongi district while opening the genocide commemoration nights in Bwishyura sector.
In a sorrowful speech, Bernard Kayumba called upon all Rwandese who participated or witnessed genocide to come and testify on what they know, did or watched happen.
“You watched how Tutsis were being killed mercilessly, why should we keep on hurting genocide survivors asking them to testify? What about those who participated in the killing? From now on we shall be asking whoever witnessed genocide to testify.â€
IBUKA representative in Karongi Isaac Niragire said that it is pleasing that Rwandese turn up in big numbers for commemoration nights saying that it gives them hope for the future.
“This is a good sign that Rwandese have realized that genocide affects them all, commemorating genocide victims will continue like this in future,†says Isaac Niragire
