Kirehe: Parents asked to fight child rights violation

Rwanda | KireheDistAs a way of improving a child rights, two days meeting on children rights was recently conducted in Kirehe district.

The meeting was attended by members of National women’s council at sector level, religious leaders, head teachers and heads of children’s homes.

Jacqueline Murekatete, vice mayor in charge of social affairs in Kirehe district revealed that a child needs care love and attention and children without parents and relatives need more love.

Due to 1994 Tutsi genocide that claimed many left orphans, many orphan children are raised in orphanages.

While the government of Rwanda plans to reduce on the orphanages, it is a must to sensitise parents to be merciful and receive orphans in their homes, Murekatete stretches.

“Everybody enjoys living when taken good care of, children should live in good families that care for them,” adds Murekatete.

Venuste Nkurikiyimana, in charge of family promotion in Kirehe explained on the violation of a child’s rights and showed types of violence committed to children.

Nkurikiyimana noted that policies that favour children are in place but some people break them unknowingly.

The role of the government and the parents is to prepare for the good future of the children, added Nkurikiyimana.
